Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that feature. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms on our system.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We may retain an email or other direct message long enough to respond and maintain the related correspondence. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive routine technical information when a page loads, including:
- Page-view timestamps and time spent on pages
- The device's IP address
- Browser name and version
- Device category and operating system
- Pages viewed during the visit
- A referring website, when supplied
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. We and analytics providers use them to measure traffic patterns, such as popular pages and where visits end. Browser controls can block cookies, though disabling them may change how some features behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a search request to the selected partner
- Maintaining site availability and speed
- Diagnosing faults and security problems
- Measuring which reference pages are useful
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not own, compile, keep, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The published material identifies access routes through Chemung Sheriff Records, the criminal courts, DCJS, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not combined into a third-party dossier or consumer report. This website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and disclosure practices apply to information submitted through those tools. We do not control those rules, so read the provider's policy before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Chemung County departments, New York court portals, state agencies, legal services, or commercial search providers. Once a visitor follows an outbound link, the destination's policy governs the visit. Review it before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own technology to measure activity across websites and tailor ads. Their systems perform that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners receiving a query submitted to their tool
- Advertising networks serving content on a page
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under valid legal process
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable technical and organizational practices protect collected information. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. A verified request concerning a minor's submitted data will be addressed promptly.
Your Data Rights
Rights can vary with residence and applicable law. New York Freedom of Information Law, including Public Officers Law Section 87 and Section 89, governs requests to public agencies, not this private website. DCJS criminal-history dissemination follows separate authority under Executive Law Section 837. Subject to applicable law and verification, visitors may:
- Request access to personal information held by us
- Ask that inaccurate personal information be corrected
- Seek deletion where the law permits
- Object to certain processing when an applicable right provides for it
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as practices or legal duties change. A revised version will be posted here with its new effective date.
