Use the custodian that matches the record:

- Felony court files: Chemung County Court clerk at the Hazlett Building, 203-205 Lake Street, Elmira, NY 14901; 607-873-9450; weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- City, town, or village cases: contact the clerk of the court where the matter began; the county clerk does not hold every local criminal file
- Personal New York rap sheet: use fingerprint-based Personal Record Review through the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS)
- Incident reports: send a New York Freedom of Information Law request to the police agency that investigated the event
- Record sealing: file with the proper sentencing court and serve the Chemung County District Attorney when the law requires it
