Why We Built This Site
New York does not place every criminal record in one public database. Chemung Sheriff Records holds county-agency reports and booking material, while the clerk of the court of origin keeps charges, docket events, and dispositions. DCJS provides fingerprint-based Personal Record Review to the subject of the record. New York Courts provides separate public court-search products, and DOCCS maintains state custody records. The registry is another distinct DCJS system. We arrange verified office details, access limits, fees, and request steps around those differences.
What You Will Find Here
- Agency contacts: where to reach Chemung Sheriff Records, the originating criminal court, and the appropriate state system
- Court-record instructions: ways to find and read Chemung County criminal court cases
- Official review routes: the difference between OCA court searches and fingerprint-based DCJS Personal Record Review
- Record sealing information: where New York sealing requests begin and which court records support them
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately operated reference site, not a Chemung County or New York government service. That distinction creates firm limits:
- We do not issue a rap sheet, certified disposition, police report, or booking record
- We cannot submit a FOIL request or record-sealing motion for a visitor
- We do not perform official background checks
- We cannot interpret an individual charge, warrant, sentence, or sealing outcome as legal advice
- We cannot promise that an office has not changed a fee, schedule, telephone number, or procedure
An official copy must come from its custodian, such as the Sheriff, the originating court, DCJS, or another authorized New York agency.
Search Partners
Outside providers power search boxes found on some pages. They control their results, fees, account terms, and data practices. A paid signup reached through a partner tool may generate a referral fee for us, which helps support public access to the reference material. We do not set a partner's price or decide which records its system returns.
